History
The Ceylon Journal of Medical Science (CJMS) had its beginning in 1924 as section D of the Ceylon Journal of Science, which was established by the Government of Ceylon to publish scientific research. The Ceylon Journal of Science comprised seven sections ranging from A to F including Botany, Zoology, Fisheries, Medical Science, Mathematics-Physics-Meteorology, Chemistry, and Archaeology-Ethnology. In 1942, the administration of the Journal was handed over to the University of Ceylon. Until the 1960s the teachers from the Colombo Medical Faculty administered the journal. With the establishment of medical faculties in other Universities, members from these also served in the Editorial Board. Section D of the Ceylon Journal of Science was named the Ceylon Journal of Medical Science in November 1965. Despite breaks and delays in publication, the journal had remained active until volume 53 in 2010. After a dormancy of six years, the CJMS was re-launched in 2016 as the official journal of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, and designed as an open access, peer-reviewed online journal.
